who doesn't love bacon...

kevin bacon...that is. today we're playing six degrees of kevin bacon. for those of you who don't know how to play, here are the rules. based on the six degrees of separation theory, any two people can be linked by six degrees. apparently kevin bacon has been in so many movies that any actress or actor can be linked to him in six degrees or less. you can link any actor or actress as long as they've been in a movie together (no outside of movie references will count...ex: marriage, dating...) for instance...if the person was jennifer grey, we could link her to patrick swayze in dirty dancing, patrick swayze to tom cruise in the outsiders, tom cruise to kevin bacon in a few good men.

this one might be the easiest movie trivia yet. anyone who answers gets 2000 pts for each question as long as they don't answer exactly the same as someone else. it's a good way for those of you who are low on the ranking pole to get some easy points. remember, no cheating! using the imdb to look up your answers constitutes as cheating! you have to rely on your own brain. here goes...

1. katie holmes

2. ashton kutcher

3. elvis pressley

4. joaquin phoenix

5. matthew perry

i love lazy sundays (or any lazy day for that matter)

i'm feeling better...but still not 100%. i still have a cough and when i lay down to sleep it feels like a fat person is sitting on my chest. but other than that, i'm feeling better. i'm just hoping that i continue to get better. i finished the antibiotic today...and last time i started feeling worse after i was done. i've tried to get a lot of rest and drink lots and lots of water. seriously i think that's all i've had to drink since last weekend. maybe a glass or two of lemonade. i just never really drink a lot...but i've been drinking at least 4 bottles of water a day...sometimes more. but i'm sure that you really don't care about my drinking habits.

random thoughts that have been collecting in my head over the past week. you might need to brace yourself...these are random.

* i watched love actually again last night and everytime i see it i love it a little bit more. plus, it's a good christmasy movie.

* i'm really excited about christmas! i love it! i'm just hoping i don't get too excited and then it's a let down. that's never any fun. i know my mom still hasn't done any christmas shopping for me...because she told me she couldn't remember what i wanted. that's my mom for you.

* there was a chance for a 18 hr period where i was thinking about flying to washington and driving back with robyn, but her friend erin is coming here with her instead...so that'll be fun! i'm really excited. she leaves the northwest in a week!

* jaclyn left yesterday morning. she won't be back until jan 13. i already miss her.

* i got asked to stay at the temp job...not sure how long. but the rest of the temps are not coming back until the new year. apparently they like me because "i'm good." seriously, they told me that.

* i got to hang out with melina, mike, zack (my bff)and brian from the summer on wednesday night. then thursday night we went to dinner with a bunch of people and mike and zack were there. it was great fun. i meant to take pictures...but i met them after work so i forgot. hopefully there will be more reunions in the near future.

* i'm not quite done with christmas shopping, but i am close. i only have a few things left to get. not sure when i'll have time.

* i have to edit this wedding video i shot last month in the next few days. there's a million other things i can think of that also need to be done.

* i really don't like it when people decorate their cars for christmas. i was thinking about this the other day on the way to work because i saw a bunch of cars with wreaths on the front grill. then the other day on the way home from work, there was an suv that had the luggage rack decorated with christmas lights...they were on...and blinking. isn't that a safety hazzard of some sort? i definitely think it's ridiculous.

* i found a pair of oscar de la renta pants at tjmaxx for $10. i was pretty excited.

* i baked snowman cookies that jaclyn forgot to make before she left. they're yummy...but there's no way i need to eat 24 snowman cookies. so i might take them to work...or give them to people i like

* i promised that i'd tell you about new kids on the block...so emily...just for you. when i was at home for thanksgiving i found my old new kids tapes. they're about the only ones i still have. and i had all of them...every single album. i know, pathetic, right? but i was a fan. anyway...i was listening to them on my way to work. i started with new kids, moved on to hangin' tough, then step by step, then games (the remix)...then...the christmas album. you definitely should check out funky funky christmas. it's absolutely amazing. what can only be defined by the 90s. i also saw on itunes that apparently a couple years ago jordan knight released an album where he covers all the new kids songs. weird. what made him feel the need to cover the songs that he'd already sang? so strange. anyway...as bad as the music is, i absolutely love it. not because it's great music, but more because of the fact that it takes me back...

seriously...this is my life. hey, you're the one reading about it. don't give me crap. i'll try to be better. now that i'm not on the death bed.

bronchitis + pneumonia = no fun

What is pneumonia?
Pneumonia is an infection of one or both lungs which is usually caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Prior to the discovery of antibiotics, one third of all people who developed pneumonia subsequently died from the infection. Currently, over 3 million people develop pneumonia each year in the United States. Over a half a million of these people are admitted to a hospital for treatment. Although most of these people recover, approximately five per cent will die from pneumonia. Pneumonia is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.

How do people "catch pneumonia?"
Some cases of pneumonia are contracted by breathing in small droplets that contain the organisms that can cause pneumonia. These droplets get into the air when a person infected with these germs coughs or sneezes. In other cases, pneumonia is caused when bacteria or viruses that are normally present in the mouth, throat, or nose inadvertently enter the lung. During sleep it is quite common for people to aspirate secretions from the mouth, throat, or nose. Normally, the body's reflex response (coughing back up the secretions) and immune system will prevent the aspirated organisms from causing pneumonia. However, if a person is in a weakened condition from another illness, a severe pneumonia can develop. People with recent viral infections, lung disease, heart disease, and swallowing problems, as well as alcoholics, drug users and those who have suffered a stroke or seizure are at higher risk for developing pneumonia than the general population.
Once organisms enter the lungs, they usually settle in the air sacs of the lung where they rapidly grow in number. This area of the lung then becomes filled with fluid and pus as the body attempts to fight off the infection.

i'm not dead...but i sure feel like it...

so, i guess i should say that i'm sorry for not posting...but if you were living my life right about now, you'd understand why. right before thanksgiving i started getting a cough. knowing that i get bronchitis at the drop of a hat, i should have known it was coming...but i felt okay. but over the break it got worse until i ended up going to the ER on saturday night because my dad threatened to take me out himself if i didn't get some antibiotics before i left town. so unwillingly, i went. my antibiotics seemed like they were doing the trick. slowly, the cough was diminishing...but i still felt really sluggish and lazy and sleepy all the time. one day i even took a nap in my car during my lunch break.
the cough started again on monday...i finished up the antibiotics tuesday and the cough returned with a vengence on tuesday night. wednesday night my side started hurting a little bit...thursday, i was feeling sharp pains...this morning i wanted to get back in my bed and die. i was coughing...but it was so painful to cough that i didn't want to. it felt like someone had stabbed me in the lungs. it hurt to breath. so i went to work feeling like crap. around 1:30 i decided i was going to have to leave and try to find a walk in clinic that would be nice to the pocketbook. i asked this lady at work if she knew of any place and i just busted up in tears. now, those of you who know me know that there are only a few things that make me cry...being sick is definitely one of them. so here i am in the middle of the office with tears rolling down my face...but crying hurts too bad. i left work early and went to a cheap clinic that was known for diagnosing bronchitis...but he said that it sounded like pneumonia. at this point i was already aware that it had turned into pneumonia and probably pleurisy. seriously, i get it so often that by now...i can diagnose myself. so he refered me to another clinic that could treat me...but it was way expensive.
two and a half hours after leaving work i found a place that would let me be seen by a dr or nurse practitioner that wouldn't cost me my first born child. jaclyn went with me because she loves me (i didn't need anyone to hold my hand, but it was great having someone to just be with me). anyway...i was right all along. i'm not dying...but i definitely have some lingering bronchitis and some pneumonia with symptoms of pleurisy. sounds like death to me. hopefully the new medicine will do the trick and i'll be feeling great really soon.

friends at a much needed time!

this past week was pretty crazy. i was trying to fight off the sickness. the beginning of the week was pretty miserable. but as the week went on, it was starting to feel a little better. but life kept going at the crazy pace, and everything seemed to go wrong. since i've moved it seems like i can't get my head above water. and friday, it definitely seemed like someone was holding me underwater.

in times like these, it's always my friends who seem to be the ones who help me out. i can't thank them enough for their friendship. on friday, i was having a horrible day...everything was going wrong. and it was just piling up. i came home and was almost in tears when stephen called. he told me that he'd call me back in a few minutes. but then about 20 minutes later, there was a knock on the door. i looked through the peephole and it was stephen. i opened the door and he was standing there with 2 starbucks cups in his hand. he holds one out. "white chocolate mocha?"

my problems didn't instantly go away, but it definitely made things better. then while stephen was here, robyn called and gave me another reminder of just how great my friends are.

this weekend seemed to be a big reminder of just how great friendship is. the people i have in my life are so great, and they love me. and it's great to just be reminded of that.

my friend, cynthia had her 30th birthday party here in town this week. there were a lot of people who came in from out of town to celebrate with her. it was so much fun seeing people i worked camp with over the years. it was a good weekend to just be surrounded by friends i don't get to see often.
