First Etsy Post

Tonight, I was finally able to get some photos up of some of my ribbon trees.

Check them out here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/amymthomas

I can also do custom orders.  Let me know if you need anything before Christmas!

Etsy is My Friend

Over the last several months, I've had several people try to convince me to open an Etsy shop.  It's something I've thought about doing, but I just never had the time.

I finally bit the bullet and set up a shop last weekend.  One of my good friends created a logo for me a while back, so I asked if she could turn it into a banner.  She worked on it and sent it back.  I think it looks great!

What do you think?

Another Win!

The day after halloween, a friend sent me the link to enter an online costume contest for Mapco, so I did.  They posted a voting poll that was up for a week or so.  I posted it on facebook and twitter and asked all my friends to vote.  Yesterday, I got a message saying that I won! They asked some questions about the costume and asked if they could feature my name, photo, and story on their blog.  That Sock Monkey is becoming famous.  One contest at a time.

A Sock Monkey's gotta work out.

Craft Fair

This weekend, I participated in my very first craft fair! It’s something I’ve wanted to do for the last few years. So when the opportunity presented itself, I finally took the plunge. The craft fair was actually the catalyst for me going to Africa. It all worked out perfectly. I saw my friend had posted that she was looking for vendors for an upcoming craft fair to raise money for their Africa trip. When I told her I was interested in selling my ribbon trees, she asked me to go to Africa.

Since the fundraiser was to support the Nairobi trip. So it served as a great place for me to try my hand at selling my crafts, as well as raise money for my trip. The event was pulled off without a hitch. All of the vendors and volunteers were amazing. I’m hoping it’s something we can do (and I can participate in) annually.

I sold my ribbon trees and wreaths. And they sold very well! If you’d like one, or know of anyone who would love to get one for Christmas, let me know. I have trees in 12” and 8” off all different colors and lots of wreaths left.  See some photos below!

I’ve also been throwing around the idea of opening and etsy shop. We’ll see what happens!

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Tumblr_lb040hymmy1qddocjo1_500_large

Fall is here, but probably not for long.  It seems that we really only get a couple of good weeks of true autumn goodness around here.  The cool days with the warm sun shining down.  The chilly nights where all you need is a hoodie, or a light jacket to stay warm.  It reminds me football, Thanksgiving, and great food.

I love watching the leaves change color and slowly make their way to the ground.  Out my new office window, I've been able to slowly watch the trees change from green to red and yellow and orange.  It won't be long before their branches are bare and the cold comes to stay for a bit.  So I'm going to go grab a cup of apple cider and enjoy it while I can.   I'll leave you with this poem by Robert Frost, which also makes an appearance in one amazing movie - The Outsiders! Stay Gold, Ponyboy! (Cue the Stevie Wonder music)

Nothing Gold Can Stay
by: Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold,
Her early leaf's a flower.
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Everyone Loves a Sock Monkey

Since my Halloween costume was such a hit this year, I thought what better way to celebrate, than to enter the most prestigious costume contest in Nashville. Jack FM put on a contest at The Wildhorse Saloon last night, so I talked some friends in to heading down there with me.

And it’s a good thing I did…because I won! FIRST PLACE! I couldn’t believe it. I woke up this morning thinking the whole thing was a dream. Luckily, I have these pictures to prove that it really happened.
